WPT partners with Belize Bird Rescue to support rescued bird rehabilitation and rewilding. Since 2004, Belize Bird Rescue (BBR) has worked to find solutions to avian wildlife poaching and human-wildlife conflicts while being mindful of cultural practices and sensitivities in the country. BBR rapidly became the country’s only multi-species avian rescue centre through its work with every species of resident and migratory bird in Belize.

Amazon parrots are some of the most exploited for trade and are frequently received for rehabilitation. BBR also takes part in a project to raise and release Yellow-headed Amazon (Amazona oratrix) chicks vulnerable to poaching, and engages local people in education and awareness programs profiling the threats to native parrots.
