The Guadeloupe Amazon was described in detail by a number of naturalists, and was named by Gmelin in 1789. In 1779 it was noted by Buffon to be very rare, and became extinct soon after.
Adults: Mostly green parrot with black head and neck, slate-grey wash over breast and upper belly. Black beak. Wing mainly green with deep yellow wing coverts and red on shoulder. Eye red. Legs and feet slate grey.
