Regional and national news media provide platforms from which parrot conservation can be brought to a wider public. The BBC show Click has delved into the online trade in wild parrots, reporting on the work of the World Parrot Trust and the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GITOC) in tackling parrot trafficking. The WPT teamed up with Arise News and WildAid Africa to produce a film about the plight of Grey Parrots in Nigeria, which was broadcast multiple times on Nigeria’s national TV network as well as in other African countries.

On World Parrot Day May 31, 2024, Wild Africa Fund (WAF), in partnership with the Nigerian Tribune, hosted an impactful X Space event to spotlight the ecological importance of parrots and the significant threats they face. This event brought together leading experts to discuss the critical challenges faced by Africa’s wild parrot populations and actionable steps to help. WPT’s Nigeria Coordinator Ifeanyi Ezenwa took part. On World Parrot Day 2025, WPT joined Wild Africa once again to call for greater protections of these parrots in Nigeria.
