Red-and-blue Lory Rescue: Over 100 Birds Saved from Trafficking in Indonesia

Trigger Warning: Discretion advised. Illegal Wildlife Trafficking Alert

Recently in Indonesia over a hundred highly endangered Red-and-blue Lories were seized from wildlife trade in Manado Harbour.

Crammed into water bottles (click to view) that prevented them from moving or breathing properly, the birds were discovered in critical condition, suffering from stress and dehydration.

Sadly, some did not make it. But thanks to quick work by their rescuers, the ones that did survive are currently recovering at WPT partner Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue Centre after receiving health checks from WPT and Tasikoki staff members. Once they have regained their strength and have adapted to their surroundings, they will be released back to their home range of Talaud in 2024.

These birds are the lucky ones; countless others are not so fortunate. Your support helps us fight the illegal wildlife trade by supporting law enforcement and rescue centres.
