Global Partnerships to Combat Parrot Trafficking

WPT expands efforts to dismantle parrot trafficking networks

In December 2023 WPT’s Trade Specialist, Cristiana Senni, attended the 34th meeting of the Interpol Wildlife Crime Working Group in Lyon, France.

The meeting was a chance to meet colleagues face-to-face and forge new connections with law enforcement agencies from around the world, as well as learn how WPT and our partners can better support efforts to end illegal trade in wildlife. Illegal trafficking is a major threat to parrots and Interpol is an important platform for the coordination and support of law enforcement operations.

In 2023, Interpol’s operation Thunder led to the seizure of 1370 live birds, including many parrots. Read more about Operation Thunder here »
