Understanding and Managing Parrot Aggression

Understanding and Managing Parrot Aggression
Parrot aggression can be challenging, but understanding the root causes can help manage it effectively. Common triggers include fear, territorial behaviour, hormones and lack of socialisation.
To reduce aggression, ensure your parrot has a consistent routine, plenty of mental stimulation, and all interactions are positive interactions. Never punish aggressive behaviour; instead, use gentle training techniques and reinforce good behaviour with treats and gentle quiet praise.

A calm and patient approach will help build trust and reduce aggressive tendencies, but this may take weeks, months or even years, especially if your bird has a history of neglect or abuse.

Check out the article called Alternatives To Parrot Breaking by Dr. Susan G. Friedman, which discusses how to reduce fear through learning.
