Celebrating the Blue-throated Macaw Through Art

In Bolivia, creativity is helping save one of the world’s rarest parrots.

Led by our partners at Fundación CLB, in collaboration with the University Institute of Arts and the José Ballivián Autonomous University of Beni, Colors of Freedom is an art competition that brings people together to celebrate and protect the Critically Endangered Blue-throated Macaw (Ara glaucogularis).

Last year, talented children, youth, and adults from across Beni, Bolivia submitted stunning artworks to raise awareness for this iconic parrot, which is found nowhere else in the world. Their creations didn’t just brighten exhibition walls, they helped inspire a wider conversation about conservation and Bolivia’s unique biodiversity.

Now, the 2024 winning artworks are on display, and the initiative is growing. The 2025 competition is already in full swing, with even more schools, universities, and art institutions taking part and expanding its reach and impact.

The winning artists in each category will not only have their work featured in a special exhibition they’ll also be awarded with an unforgettable visit to CLB’s Blue-throated Macaw Conservation Center, where they’ll learn firsthand about the efforts to protect this rare and beautiful species.

This inspiring initiative blends art, education, and community engagement to shine a spotlight on one of the world’s most Endangered parrots. It’s a powerful and creative way to build pride in Bolivia’s unique wildlife and inspire the next generation of conservationists to protect it.
